Plushenko Vows to Stand on Podium in Sochi

PLUSHENKO BRILLIANT

 Does quad to win seventh European Title by a mile.  Vows to stand on podium but still will not confirm whether he will skating in World Championships in March.

Update:  Plushenko at Europeans has said for certain now that he will not fo worlds.  He will be doing some exhibitions following Europeans and then will have knee surgery in Munich.

The tall blond 29-year-old, who was born at the end of the Trans-Siberian railroad, for which his parents worked, earned 261.23 points, 14.96 ahead of the silver medallist, his 11-year younger Russian teammate, Artur Gachinski.

Plushenko declared, “I will now go to Munich for another surgery on my knee, and then next season, I will do everything – Grand Prix events - everything, and then I will stand on the podium in Sochi!”

Defending champion Florent Amodio of France earned bronze with 234.27 points, while his team mate, Brian Joubert finished eight.  

Kevin Bids Farewell.

Kevin van der Perren, who first competed in the European Championships in 2000, and has taken part in every year since then, won bronze in 2007 and 2009 took the ice for his warm-up, but then went to the referee, and withdrew. His coach, Silvie de Rijcke, explained, “He fell on his wrist in the short program. We didn't go to hospital with it but we think it may be broken. We tried to make it numb but then he couldn't feel anything. He wanted to wait till the last minute. This was to be his last competition so he is very sad that he could not compete.”
