The junior championship was won by Tanith Belbin & Benjamin Agosto. They won the compulsory dances convincingly with eight first place ordinals in each dance. In the OD they were strongly challenged by Emilie Nussear & Brandon Forsyth who won that part of the event on a 5-4 split of the panel. In the free dance Belbin & Agosto came back with fast fluid dance skated to music by Vivaldi. The won the dance on a 7-2 split to win the event. This is their first Nationals together and in winning the event they bypassed Nussear & Forsyth who were last year's silver medalist and where hoping for the gold this time with last year's champions, Silverstein & Pekarek, out of the way. Belbin & Agosto are a talented team with potential, and between Silverstein & Pekarek at the senior level, these teams at the junior level, and some promising prospects at the novice level their is a glimmer of hope that U.S. ice dancing can drag itself out of depths of hopelessness it has wallowed for the past few years.
