The Scale of Values for the dance is as follows:
Given my knowledge of Compulsory Dance, I am of limited use to you all. That's why we have other people normally write up our dance reports. Unfortunately "other people" aren't here. So here goes. Warmup 1 Anastasia Grebenkina & Vazgen Azrojan He's in tux, she's in white, barely covered up. (How I love Ice dancing!) A mediocre performance. No huge errors. Nothing special. Marks
for steps indicate mostly -1s for steps. They are going to end up in the bottom third with these marks. Margarita Dorbiazko & Povilas Vanagas He's in tux, she's in white. Skated securely. They look as good as before their retirement. Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps. They are going to end up in the top third for sure. These are probably top 5 marks, but not wining marks. Expect 8s, from whoever wins this dance. Jamie Silverstein & Ryan O'Meara He's in tux, she's in violet. An adequate skate. This is pretty much the standard for average in senior dance Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for steps. They are going to end up in the bottom third. Melissa Gregory & Denis Petukhov He's in tux, she's in white. Not a good skate for them. Fairly clean. Not much sense of speed or power. Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for steps with a
few +1. They are going to end up in the middle third. Warmup 2 Kristin Fraser & Igor Lukanin He's in tux, she's in shades of blue and violet, open at the back. Securely skated. She seems to be pushing hard to keep up. Marks for steps indicate mostly -1s for steps. They are going to end up in the bottom third. Oksana Dominina & Maxim Shabalin He's in white tux, she's in white with long skirt. Little extension in the steps. Adequately skated. He tends to push off the toe. Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps. They are going to end up in the top third. Alexandra Kauc & Michal Zych He's in tux, she's in yellow, fading to white in the skirt. Mediocre skate. He is the stronger of the two. She doesn't develop as much power as he does. She looks sloppy to me. Marks for steps indicate mostly -1s or worse for
steps. They are going to end up in the bottom third Nozomi Watanabe & Akiyuki Kido He's in tux, she's in chartreuse with cutouts and black sash design and accents on the bodice. Decent skate. Nice sense of rhythm. A little close to the wall near the end of the last pattern. Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for steps, with
-1s for the third section of each pattern. They are going to end up in the bottom third. Elena Grushina & Ruslan Goncharov He's in white tux, she's in white, open at the back. Nice swing of the legs. ice knee action. Very together and fluid. Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps They are going to end up in the top third. These marks are competitive for a medal. Top three at this point:
Not a good sign for D&V. Resurface Warmup 3 This is the warmup that will tell us which way the winds are blowing! Federica Faiella & Massimo Scali He's in tux, she's in bright red with silver design on bodice and red elbow length gloves. The dress it trailing strings or something, that is very distracting. She doesn't match his extension. He's carrying the load here. Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for steps, with a
few +1s They are going to end up in the middle third. Tatiana Navka & Roman Kostomarov He's in tux, she's in white with lots of stones, a short skirt and a tail, add to that elbow length glove trailing material and a sparkly head piece. This dress pins the slut-o-meter. She pushes wide on some steps. Fluid. Her extension could be better. Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps, with
some +2s They are currently first. 0.9 points ahead of the Ukrainians. Tanith Belbin & Benjamin Agosto He's in tux, she's in white fading to blue in the skirt. Lots of appliqués on the bodice and the upper arms. Cloth "wings" training from the elbows. Very together and fluid. Good extension from both. Well done and secure. I would have them first. Though from the response the audience preferred the Russians. But then there are very few North Americans here, and large fan contingent from Russia. Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps. They are currently in third place. They are 0.03 behind the Ukrainians. So far my prediction that the top couples would be kept close is coming true! Jana Khokhlova & Sergei Novitski He's in tux, she's in bright orange-pink. Silver beading on the bodice. Elbow length gloves, which mercifully aren't trailing anything. Seems rushed to me. An ok skate. Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for the steps for
sections 1 and 3, +1s for section2. They are going to end up in the middle third. Alexandra Zaretski & Roman Zaretski He's in tux, she's in black with long shear sheer skirt. Her extension needs work. She seems a little sloppy. He is the stronger skater of the two. She struggles through some of the steps as he pulls her along. Marks for steps indicate mostly -1s for steps They are going to end up in the bottom third. They are currently last. Top five at this point:
Warmup 4 Julia Golovina & Oleg Voiko He's in black pants, white shirt and black vest, she's in peach, with bare midriff. Fairly smooth. She tends to kick the free leg up instead of lift it. Sloppy steps on her part. Lots of snow. He is slightly better. He's turning on the toe also sometimes and throwing up snow. Marks for steps indicate mostly -1s for steps. They are next to last currently. Albena Denkova & Maxim Staviski He's in very dark blue with olive blousy sleeves and a train from the back, she's in olive dress. Both covered in fabric flowers. Fairly together. A little bit of snow coming off the toes of both of them. Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps. They are currently second(!) in place. Megan Wing & Aaron Lowe He's in black pants and buff shirt, she's in beige. His extension is lacking in places. An ok skate. Middle of the pack quality Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for steps.
Some 1s. They are going to end up in the . Sinead Kerr & John Kerr He's in tux, she's in white. He is pretty clean (and pretty). She is a little less under control. An ok skate. Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for steps.
A few 1s. They are going to end up in the middle third. Barbara Fusar Poli & Maurizio Margaglio He's in black black and strange peach tunic style top with silver beading, she's in peach dress, with peach arm bands. Very weird. Decent extension from both. They step a little wide at times. Fairly smooth and fluid. A small control issue for him near the end of the second pattern? Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps.
Some 2s. The third section of the last pattern a little lower
than the other They are currently in first place Top five at this point:
About 1.4 points separate the top 4. Resurface Warmup 5 Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon He's in tux, she's in light blue, almost completely covered in gold and silver beading. It's really kind of ugly. It looks like she is skating in chain mail. A good skate. Clean steps. Fluid. very together. Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps. They are currently in fourth! place. That's a shocker. Isabelle Delobel & Olivier Schoenfelder He's in tux, she's in pink, with lavender beading on the bodice. Right arm in a full length sleeve, left arm bare. A decent skate. Some snow flying off the blades, and some skidding to control the speed. Marks for steps indicate mostly +1s for steps.
Some 0s. They are going to end up in the top third. Galit Chait & Sergei Sakhnovski He's in tux, she's in violet with silver beading at the neck and where the cleavage is supposed to be. Looks like they are skating though peanut butter. Pretty sloppy. She falls in the second pattern, -1 for the deduction. Their Olympic dream is over. Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for steps.
A few +1s, and some -1. They are going to end up in the middle third. Nora Hoffman & Attila Elek He's in tux, she's in white lace, open at the back, with gloves to the armpits. A huge labor. Not much extension. Fairly clean steps. Marks for steps indicate mostly s for steps. They are going to end up in the bottom third. Nathalie Pechalat & Fabian Bourzat He's in tux, she's in turquoise with several cutouts around the bodice, with silver beading. Trailing a scarf from the left elbow. And a big turquoise flower on the right ... you know what. Stepping wide. A struggle for her to keep up. He is pulling her around the pattern. Marks for steps indicate mostly 0s for steps.
The third section of the each pattern a little lower. They are going to end up in the bottom third. Top six at the end:
About 1.4 points separate the top 6. Our prediction at the start of the night was that the top teams would all be close, and will be held close through the OD. Drobiazko & Vanagas seem out of the running, even though they are just 3.55 points behind the leaders. Wouldn't it be ironic, if the system that was supposedly designed to prevent the judges from manipulating the scores and punish the skaters was being used by the judges to punish the team that was most outspoken in their criticism of the ISU following the 2002 scandal. |

1 CuLi4+RoLi4: horizontal split in front of hi,

First team so far to show an obvious purpose and to structure dance to the structure of the music (but it won't be rewarded!). Fair attempt to capture the drama of the story. PCs in the mid 5s. Jamie Silverstein & Ryan O'Meara Modern Tango Both in black will red beading accents. She in elbow length gloves. CuLi4+RoLi4: Supported at leg

sit-sit to up-vertical split, nice position from him (4) Skating
skills average to above average. Transitions above average. Started out

back for some of the elements, but lost the whole program. Sinead Kerr & John Kerr Scottish Medley (music is mostly bagpipes and drums) He is in black, with violet and blue tartan accents on top. She is in red skirt, with matching tartan for top, open back.

skills above average. Transitions above average. A decent Scottish
flavor, but subtle. Jana Khokhlova & Sergei Novitski Flamenco Bolero He's in black, with shirt half orange, half black. She's in half orange dress, half black design over nude fabric. The kind of monstrosity we have come to expect from a Russian couple.
1 CoSp4: doughnut-it to sit-sit Skating

rhythm. Above average expression. An interesting program. Warmup Group 4 Oksana Dominina & Maxim Shabalin Waltz of the Spirits He is in black pants with gold and buff shirt - tunic-like. She is in gold, with beading on chest and back and at wrists.
1 CoSp4: sit-sit to foot to the head spin getting boring

8 CCiSt2: can't keep up with music, he is sloppy again, Skating skills above
average. Transitions ok, basic. Mindless music, skated to
mindlessly. First 1/3 was ok, then got more and more boring, with less
andless to do with the music. Margarita Dorbiazko & Povilas Vanagas Phantom of the Opera He is in black, with white ruffles at chest and peach details. She is in white, with skirt bleeding to peach, and peach details.

skills, good. Transition mostly good. Some sections with too many
crossovers. This was not good enough for a medal, even without the error
from the OD. Decent success in capturing the drama of the music. but
technique hold them back. Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon withdrew before start of event Somewhere in Time SlLi Galit Chait & Sergei Sakhnovski Bolero He is in royal blue, with beige shirt under blue tunic. She is in beige and gold, with blue and gold beading. Lots of beads on the boobs.

Nice sense of rhythm and timing. Not quite captures the passion or
dynamics of the whole program. Well performed. Tatiana Navka & Roman Kostomarov Carmen Both in back, red and gold, in character. Her dress is actually pretty nice for once. 1 CoSp4 :
sit-sit to doughnut-sit Skating skills very
good. Transitions good to very good. Expression of music good.
They are working the flavor of the music but not the story line. Well
skated and well performed. For me, lacks passion. Albena Denkova & Maxim Staviski Albinoni Adagio (with Latin guitar interpretation) Both in red and black. Some silver beading. Both trailing shrouds from the arms. SlLi+RoLi:
upside down Headstand to horizontal swing around at shoulder level, then waist

themusic. The most interesting and passionate program on this event.
Well performed. More U.S. flag out now than we have previous seen this week (or two). Tanith Belbin & Benjamin Agosto Flamenco Medley He is mainly in black. She is mainly in red. Hard core fans like you, know what it looks like! CuLi4+RoLi4: draped over leg, then
swung around supported arm to back. Skating skills very good. Transitions very
good. Well skated. A few minor hiccups. Tanith said she had a
small bobble in one of the twizzles, but I didn't notice it. Isabelle Delobel & Olivier Schoenfelder The Flight of the Dove Both in black read and black. Very elaborate. Beats me what its about. This is your typical very weird French program. 1 SlLi4+CuLi4: two
foot glide in sit she is extended forward, then he is up and pulls her legs up
to arch in front on him almost a death spiral here
5 CoSp2: pair sit to up-up, not quite a layback (Sp4) opposite facing shoot the ducks
8 CCiSt2: well skated, very together (3) Skating
skills good to very good. Transitions good. I don't have the
slightest idea what the heck this program is about. But it was well
skated, whatever it was. Attention grabbing anyway. Not enough for a
medal though. Final standings after the FD
