Notes:

Punsalan and Swallow were clearly superior here; with decent, but not outstanding marks - in the 5.5/5.6 range.  The second and third place teams also skated the dance decently.  Semenovich and Feorov forced their way through the dance without grace, and for the bottom half of the group the men were doing all the work, while the women held on for dear life.  For the last place team, at some points it looked as though the woman was going to go flying if she lost her grip on her partner.

Notes:

Punsalan and Swallow were hot in the Original Dance tonight.  They were fast, they were up-beat, they were lively, and they skated.  There choreography was the most sophisticated of the group and the best presented.  Fusar-Poli and Margaglio were also fast and expressed the dance, but spent too much time dancing in place instead of skating; while Mrazova and Simecek did a decent job but Mrazova stumbled once in the latter part of the dance.  Semenovich and Fedorov were fast but wild, charging around the ice instead of skating.

The bottom half of the event was another story.  All four dances were much simpler, and less expressive - well below the quality of the first four teams.   Of the lower four, only Wing and Lowe presented a coherent dance, though not a particularly difficult one.  Lang and Tchernyshev moved up one place thanks to a moderate fall by Jaffredo mid-way through their dance.

Notes:

Punsalan and Swallow took the gold medal here easily, skating to "Tribute to Elvis Presley".  They were fast and dynamic and received several marks of 5.8 in both the first and second mark, their best scores of the competition.  Their well received numbers offer the strong possibility for a top five finish at the upcoming Olympic Games.

Fusar-Poli skating to "Amarcord" did a number that was fun in some respects, but for the most part was frivolous and unintelligible;  Their costumes are strong contenders for the seasons list of top ten worst dressed skaters - sort of a multi-colored pastel raggedy Ann kind of effect.

Semenovish and Fedorov moved up one spot for the bronze medal skating to music from the soundtrack "Desperado".  It was fast, furious, intense, and perhaps a bit too athletic.  For all three dances this team skated a little too much like bulls in a china shop.  Nevertheless, their energy level and dynamic performance was preferable to the treacle offered by Mrazova and Simecek, who again used their jazzed up version of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor.  That dance is just too simple and low-key to leave a strong impression.

In the bottom half of the pack, Lang and Tchernyshev slipped back one spot to sixth place thanks to a simplistic free dance in which Tchernyshev did most of the work and Lang hung on for the ride.
