The original dance makes up 30% of the total in the ice dance event. The dance consists of required elements that must be completed within a time in the range of 2 minutes 20 seconds to 2 minutes 40 seconds. Vocal music may be used.

Deductions for fall are taken from the first mark only (Composition) unless it affects the presentation in which case it may also be reflected in the second mark; i.e., the deduction is always taken in the first mark, but the second mark (Presentation) can also be reduced if the fall affects the presentation.
If a fall makes it impossible to recognize a required element then the element is treated as omitted and the deduction for an omission is taken (0.5) from the first mark.
